Financial reporting SEC matters Audit ESG

On March 6, 2024, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approved, by a three to two vote, its long-awaited mandatory climate-risk disclosure requirements (Final Rule). As expected, the Final Rule no longer requires Scope 3 greenhouse gas emission disclosures, which would have required registrants to gather emission information from other entities throughout its value chain.

The rules will be effective 60 days after publication in the Federal Register and include phased-in compliance dates depending, among other things, on filing status.

Our article, SEC issues final rule on climate disclosures, provides a summary of the Final Rule.
