Jerry Musi is a tax partner RSM US LLP and serves as the firm’s national tax leader for the financial services industry. He is a lead tax expert in the asset management sector of financial services, specifically serving private equity, small business investment company, debt funds and fund of funds. He joined RSM in 1994 as a tax associate and has been part of the firm since then.
With 30 years of experience, Jerry has an extensive background in tax compliance and tax consulting in the asset management sector. He works closely with chief financial officers, finance executives and GP founders of these investment funds. He has provided specialized top value knowledge in tax planning and tax advisory services. He has a high-level tax compliance and consulting background in partnerships, other pass-through entities, corporations and individual tax planning. Jerry stays abreast of legislative tax issues affecting passet management funds. Jerry is often interviewed by tax periodicals on various tax issues facing investment funds. He has often been called upon for advice on fund tax issues across the firm and remains an expert in the tax area of investment funds across federal, state and international areas..
Born and raised in Queens, New York, and Long Island, Jerry feels fortunate that he’s had the opportunity to meet people of nearly every nationality and culture through his work at RSM. Jerry is a relationship builder known for his skills in communication and client service. He is invested in the next generation of leaders at RSM and appreciates helping colleagues develop into future leaders and partners of the firm.
Jerry was an original member of the firm’s culture of inclusion working group, helping shape the firm’s inclusive culture. He is passionate about bringing unique perspectives to the firm to broaden the scope of opinions and skill sets. He finds this pursuit extremely rewarding and critical to the firm’s success. Jerry has been active in many of the firm’s employee network groups. Inspired by his participation in these groups, he has joined charitable committees and events outside the firm to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association,Autism Speaks and Best Buddies.
When he’s not advising on tax issues, Jerry indulges in his love of the law by visiting and listening to court proceedings and attending court cases in tax and criminal court cases.
